Strawberry Creek Center/Berkeley Youth Alternatives seeks U.C. Berkeley students to volunteer in our Big Sister/Big Brother program at our center in West Berkeley. U.C. Berkeley students will be matched with children from the local community. The mentors will serve as a positive role models to ethnically diverse Berkeley children ranging in age from 7 to 14 years old. These youngsters often come from abused/neglected situations. Volunteers offer friendship, support and guidance.and provide encouragement, inspiration and love. The mentor commits to spending a minimum of three hours per week with the child and attending a monthly social at the center which all mentors and mentees attend. Mentors are asked to make a one year commitment. We are especially interested in students of color and bilingual students, but all are welcome. Come enrich and empower a young person and gain valuable experience and units.
