This project is one which enables UCB students to get college credit for working with elementary school children. This work includes gardening as well as outdoor environmental education in the school's environmental yard. The students at Washington Elementary School come from extremely diverse backgrounds, so we would like a diverse group of students from U.C. Berkeley.

What is expected of the UCB students? The student is placed in a small group which works together to teach a class once a week at Washington Elementary, a school near campus. In addition to teaching the hour-long class at the school, students attend a two-hour class from 5-7 p.m. on Thursdays in 2308 Tolman Hall. No formal background in education is necessary, only a commitment to children, the environment and working with the project for the semester.

This course meets the field study requirement of the Education Minor.
